Creative Projects Portfolio
Big Draw Project, Kreative Kidz, Telford.
A drawing event using mobile robots “drawbots” made by Kreative Kidz from food cartons, scraps, felt pens and propelled by a motor module designed by sculpturelogic. The first part of the activity was building the drawbots. The second getting them to move across the paper landscape. Each drawbot had it's own personality created by the maker. The drawing made by each drawbot varied according to how the bot was fitted out with pens and it's resulting movement. The principle of movement was to create a dynamic loading with motor and weight. The drawbots all performed on the same paper blending their mark making and movement using different random behaviours.
Outdoor Learning area. Lower Heath C of E School, Shropshire
This was a project involving both staff and pupils in the design and building of an outdoor Learning area.
Whooshing Flowing project, Woodfield infant School, Shrewsbury.
This was a project involving the exploration of the pupil's local community using digital video. We focussed on the River Severn. Pupils learnt to film in teams using a card characters they had made. Mastering skills such as focussing on the subject with camera, moving subjects and developing narrative. After filming on site, including a river cruise, the pupils built a model of the river with a landscape and flowing water. Pupils then used tripods to film accurately the model boats they had made, flowing down the river. They also filmed the process of filming. The pupils moved further afield to Shrewsbury Market Hall and were able to confidently film a narrative around market stalls and produce.
Sundorne Wildlife Garden, Shrewsbury.
Artist's residency at Sundorne Infant School. Landscape, environment and nature themes were developed through art workshops with the children and parents. The children's artwork was incorporated into sculptural features for the garden. These include a carved tree with glass sculptures of local wildlife, a viewpoint spiral mound displaying a stainless steel disc engraved with local landmarks and distances and an evolution themed footprint path. The garden received a Merit award in the Britain in Bloom Competition for community gardens.
Acton Sculptures, London.
This art residency was part of a wider research project, “Creativity Matters”, run by Wimbledon School of Art exploring how art can help to develop creativity in early learning. Elizabeth developed and ran weekly workshops with the children to explore the local area through photography, drawing and sculpture. The size of the final sculptures related to the children; one had an architectural structure formed of a series of room spaces, and the second was more like a pathway or journey between trees using images and landscape shapes from the local area. The children use them as the backdrop for their own stories and adventures. For more detailed account of the project you can follow the link and read an article written by Elizabeth in pages 22 to 29 in Perfect Practices. Autumn 2006.
